About Parents Against Grooming

Formed in 2012, Parents Against Grooming was created by parents directly/indirectly affected by child grooming in the Rochdale area. We felt back then just as we do now ‘that all parents have an inherent right to be informed about the dangers their children potentially face in a modern society.

Alerted & engaged parents are better equipped to monitor a child’s social & online behaviour. A conscious & engaged parental mind has the potential to spot subtle signs that could save their child or others from harm & duress. If you’re in doubt, please speak out!

From awareness to action! We’ve come a long way since our beginnings in 2012. As support and our team has grown we are today very proud to offer our a entirely voluntary Park Watch service throughout the Rochdale borough. Our Kids Watch pilot program will be launched early 2019.

WHAT IS GROOMING

Grooming is when an individual ‘or a group of people forge emotional connections with a child or vulnerable person. A common misconception is that people are groomed solely for the purpose of sexual – abuse, exploitation or trafficking, but this simply isn’t true. People can be groomed for a variety of alternate reasons. from petty to prolific crimes, drug dealing, violence or they could simply be groomed & used as a stepping stone to get to someone else.

Grooming is not contained to any gender or type of child, though some may be more susceptible than others there are no predefined characteristics. Young people can be groomed online or face-to-face by a stranger or by someone they know – for example a family member, friend or professional.

We’ve listed some Games & Apps that pose substantial risk to children tweens & teens, click the text to read the reasons. Here’s a local one to PAG that lists multiple messaging apps  Skype, Yak, Xava & Oovoo
